We can better understand the History of Computer by learning sequences from Pre 20^th century till now. Earlier Computer was not so small or compact or portable. Computers were initially large machines that could fill entire room.

The first substantial computer was the giant ENIAC machine by John W. Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert at the University of Pennsylvania. ENIAC (Electrical Numerical Integrator and Calculator) used a word of 10 decimal digits instead of binary ones like previous automated calculators/computers. ENIAC was also the first machine to use more than 2,000 vacuum tubes, using nearly 18,000 vacuum tubes.

Computer science traces its roots to the work of Charles Babbage, an English mathematician, who first proposed a programmable mechanical calculator in 1837. Computer science was not generally distinguished as separate from mathematics and engineering until the advent of digital electronic computers in the 1940s. It has since sprouted numerous research branches that are unique to the discipline.
